Put Your Handgun...

I know, I know. You are tired of being told to store your handguns in a safe locked away in a corner of the house. I don't blame you for it either. I don't like not being able to get to my weapon when I need it.

At the same time, I have told everyone in my classes I believe we have to be responsible enough to store our weapons in a safe place. So, is there a happy medium? I believe there is.

When I am outside my home I have my weapon on me, if nothing else because we have bobcats running around in my area that aren't afraid to be out hunting in broad daylight. However, there are times I don't wear it. For those cases, there are different lockboxes and safes we can use to keep unauthorized people from getting to them.

Let's face it, one of the things gun control advocates are trying to do is make us be liable if someone steals our unsecured gun and uses it in a crime. That's like someone stealing your car and running over someone with it and you being held responsible.

One of the ways we can take the wind out of their sails is to lock our guns up, whether it be in the house or in the car.

I have found a couple of storage boxes that will allow you to lock them in a car, either under the seat or in the trunk, while mounting it permanently (or semi permanently) to the vehicle. They also have several ways to access your handgun quickly if needed, either with fingerprints, code or key. I've put the link below to one of them.

If you use your due diligence and lock your handguns in your vehicle when you get out to go into a location that doesn't allow them or you keep it locked in a box in the house, and someone still manages to get it, then you have a defense to anything they can try to throw at you. Additionally, you may save the life of a child-maybe yours, or someone else's child.
